SoCoRock – Underground rock, online.

SoCoRock Live Webcast

Our roots dig deep into Sonoma County rock music. We work harder and harder each day that passes to bring you the latest in local rock in and around Sonoma County, California (USA). We serve the underground rock scene with artist/venue info, a 24/7 webcast and live streaming online and in your mobile device (Android). And live podcasts. And interviews. You know, just take a look around – we add more every day.

First live webcast a success!

It was Friday afternoon and we got word on Facebook that a few great local bands were going to be playing at the Arlene Francis Center off of 6th Street in Santa Rosa. The Hit System, The Publiquors and Kings and Crooks were all playing the same show!

With our recent site launch, we were excited to get out there and start doing some live webcasts – I had been perfecting the SoCoRock equipment setup the past months, reading about live recording techniques and had finally purchased the last piece of equipment to make things sound good.

I had to rush to get there – I hadn’t been there before, let alone did I know it was a live music venue only about a mile from where I lived! I wanted to meet with the owners and ask their permission, and check the place out. I met with Seth, who was very welcoming and interested in what we were doing. Martin, one of the owners, was going to be there about an hour and a half  later, so I decided to go home and get some of the stuff ready.

After fine-tuning some of my scripts, figuring out how to attach my microphone to my tripod and getting a quick bite to eat, I was out the door again and met with Martin. He was very gracious and was willing to let me set up as long as the bands were OK with us webcasting them. I set up, did some preliminary tests with Bianca, who was at a remote computer listening to me babble on into the microphone (along with anyone who might have been listening to the webcast 😉 ) and setting levels. From there we waited for the bands to start playing.

It was a great concert – The Hit System was up first, then The Publiquors, then finally Kings and Crooks. They all did great, sounded great and were streamed on the site very well. As an added bonus, something I didn’t expect to work correctly, we were able to record the feed directly as it happened into a great quality format to be able to slice up later and serve on the site as Podcasts!

We are excited to work with venues and bands more to get them exposure via live webcasts. This is only the beginning for us; we’ve got a lot of ideas that will be coming to fruition soon involving webcasting that will only help the community grow stronger, be more informed and be able to get to know the bands and venues better. Stay tuned and keep listening in!
